This year’s award show just couldn’t pull up its numbers.
According to Variety, the AMAs dropped 25% in ratings from the show’s key demographics (adults 18-49) and is down 29% in views. This year’s rating was 1.8 while the views were at 6.5 million, compared to last year’s 2.4 rating and 9.2 million viewers. For the first time in over a decade, the show did not air on a Sunday in November but the time change surely isn’t the only factor to affect the ratings. The publication notes how other award shows have also seen a big decline like the recent Emmy Awards that dropped 11% from last year.
