Drake Talks Eventual Retirement & The Rules of Hip-Hop With LeBron James

In a perfect world, most people would like to finish up their careers on their own terms. For athletes and entertainers, being in control of their retirement isn’t always in the cards. Drake sat down with LeBron James for an upcoming episode of HBO’s The Shop, and in a new teaser, Drizzy discussed the struggle of retiring gracefully and the rules of hip-hop.

“I think maybe one of my biggest concerns in my career is just to figure out how to exit gracefully,” the 6 God admits. “I’ve watched people overstay their welcome, and I just don’t ever want to be that guy that’s addicted to the feeling of victory, addicted to the emotion of people digesting something that they love, and get to the point I’m just feeding them something and they’re just like, ‘Yeah.'”

It’s refreshing to see Drake give his opinion in an open-forum discussion, since he doesn’t do many interviews these days. HBO published another preview on Wednesday (Oct. 10), with the OVO rapper alluding to the “rules” of hip-hop surrounding his recent feuds with Pusha-T and Kanye West. “Rap purists and people who just love confrontation love to say, ‘Ay man, there’s no rules.’ But there are rules,” Drizzy says.

The Shop‘s “There Are No Rules” episode also includes Orlando Magic rookie Mo Bamba, WNBA player Elena Delle Donne, Philadelphia Sixers star Ben Simmons and the Indiana Pacers’ Victor Oladipo.

Watch the pair of trailers below. The Shop airs Friday (Oct. 12) on HBO at 9:30 p.m. ET.
